Sleep sitting

Brian and I got quite the laughs tonight after we put Breeley to bed. For the most part, she's always been a great baby to put to bed. If conditions are right, she'll go down without any trouble. Sometimes we'll hear her still awake, but she doesn't cry and eventually goes to sleep. We don't check on her until she sounds likes she's asleep because if we go in, she sometimes doesn't want us to leave.

Tonight when I went in to check on her after about 20 minutes in bed, I found her sitting up, swaying back and forth, clearly asleep! She was "sleep sitting!" Of course I cracked up but then laid her back down.

After a while, Brian went in and found her sleeping in a sitting position, but her head was bent over in her lap! (Yes, she's flexible!) This is not the first time we've found her in this position. Apparently, she has learned to sit up in bed, but then can't lay back down on her own. It's one of those things that probably seems like a good idea to her at the time (to sit up), but then she's so tired she can't help but fall asleep!

Unfortunately, we weren't able to snap any pictures because she woke up when we came in - I can't imagine you could sleep very deeply in those positions! But it's my mission to capture at least one picture before she figures out how to lay down, so I'll post it when I get it.

The other golden opportunity for a funny picture also happened today and also involved sleeping. We went to storytime this morning so she went down later than normal for her morning nap, so she slept for over 3 hours! She normally takes a second nap about 2 hours after waking from her first, but since that would have been around 4:30, I figured I'd just keep her up and maybe put her to bed earlier. So I put her in her jumperoo while I started dinner. The jumper is around the corner from where I was in the kitchen, and when I didn't hear her for a few minutes, I peaked around the corner and found her slumped in the jumper, asleep! It was super cute, but I kinda felt like a bad mommy because my child is pretty picky about where she sleeps (crib or carseat is about it) and the jumper is a pretty high-energy activity, so she must have been really tired!

These new strange sleep behaviors probably have something to do with her higher activity level now that, at 10-months-old (as of today!) she's crawling everywhere! It's yet another phase that provides us with a few good laughs!

I promised I'd get a few funny sleep pictures so here they are. I seriously don't know how she sleeps like this but these are two of her favorite positions!

My favorite Valentines

Brian's parents came down to spend Valentine's Day with us. Brian and Doug got the best present possible by being able to go "crappy" fishing at the lake. It's always an adventure with those two! Apparently Brian almost drug our truck into the lake by forgetting to unstrap the boat! Luckily, boat, truck, and boys came home safely, with a few fish for dinner!

It was nice to spend a lazy day around the house while Breeley showed off her crawling, pulling up, and eating skills! She ate a few small bits of fish, but she had two of her favorites for dinner: cooked carrots and scrambled eggs! Thank goodness she doesn't know or care what time of day things should be eaten, or what types of foods "go" together!

Ma & Pappy enjoyed many smiles, laughs, and hugs, and Breeley enjoyed Pappy reading to her before bedtime. After she was in bed, we enjoyed a riveting game of Rack-o.

Obviously, Valentine's Day is pretty low-key at our house, and gifts are no exception. I made cards and cute magnet photo frames for both sets of grandparents. Apparently, I'm feeling creative and can't wait until Breeley can do craft projects! The day before, I took heart-shaped brownies to Breeley's day care ladies. I got Brian a new beard/mustache trimmer since his broke on our trip, and we gave Breeley some cute pajamas. Brian knows I don't think flowers are an economical gift, so he picked some from our yard! They are so pretty! He also let me take an uninterrupted 2-hour nap!

Even though it's nice to have a day devoted to love and hearts -- I seriously love hearts! -- really, Valentine's Day is no different than most days at our house. I enjoy spending any day with my favorite Valentines!
