"I poo poo"

Today I woke up to Breeley crying at 8:00. (Normally she sleeps until 8:30 on my days off.) I walked into her room to find her sitting on top of her new comforter and she immediately said, "I poo poo" in her sweet voice. It was so cute, despite the subject of her "sentence." I was disappointed that we didn't even make it a week with the new bed before having a pretty major accident, but what can you do? She's pretty much rolls around on top of the bedding rather than sleeping under the covers, so it's inevitable that a diaper blowout would end up on the comforter rather than on the more-easy-to-clean sheets. Oh well. At least I got a smile out of her saying, "I poo poo."

Update as of 1/25: Make that TWO major accidents in the first week!

Update as of 2/14: We upgraded to a size 5 diaper (at night only) and that has helped a lot. We've had a few spots here and there, but nothing major. Meanwhile, Breeley has started saying, "I poo poo" and waving her hand in front of her face (indicating it's "stinky") for pretty much every diaper change! Luckily, it's only true for 1-2 diapers/day!

Daddy and Doritos

Breeley is starting to talk more and more, although she still has a very limited vocabulary and it is hard to understand most things. However, her favorite word and one she perfected early on (the pronunciation anyway, not necessarily the correct usage) is "Daddy"! For a while, she called everyone, including me, "Daddy" or "Dee Dee" (Reesey). This had a tendency to be a bit embarrassing, such as the the time we were going through Walmart and she pretty much said "Daddy" to every man she saw! There I was, pregnant, with a young child who seemed confused about who her daddy was!

I'm happy to report that she is now using it for the appropriate daddy and has even started calling me "Mommy" (she has been able to say "mommy" but seemed to prefer to call me "daddy" for a while). She has started using the words she knows to describe those things, or things that are similar or remind her of those things. So, the other day, in Walmart again, I got a big laugh when we walked down the chip aisle and Breeley yelled "Daddy" and pointed to the Doritos! If you know my husband, you know he loves Doritos! Obviously Breeley has realized this too!

Big girl room

Making room for Baby #2 calls for several changes around our house. We've been holding off redoing the baby room because it meant moving Breeley into our spare room and transitioning her from the crib to a "big girl" bed, which happens to be a queen-size bed! We decided to keep the big bed in there so it can also be a guest bed. Due to space constraints, we are also keeping the computer and desk and an extra dresser in there. Most of Breeley's clothes will be in the baby room and closet. She'll have a shelf and some toys in her new room, but the room will mostly be for sleeping. However, we wanted to paint and redecorate both rooms so she can still feel like it is "her" room.

Our painting plans for previous weekends had fallen through due to snow and sickness, but things finally aligned this weekend.

Before (not completely; we'd already stripped the bed and moved a few things):

The taping takes as long as the painting. Luckily, I was able to help with this part (on the floorboards, no ladders for me).

This piece of tape kept Breeley entertained for quite a while!

After (so cute!):

I wish we'd gone a little brighter on the paint, but I'd rather it be a little too on the pale side than too much on the yellow side. It at least looks a lot better than the white and her accessories make it much more bright and sunny! We completely lucked out and were able to use her same window shade and all the wall decorations and accessories from the nursery, even the throw pillows from the glider. I was so happy to find this quilt (at Target)... it was definitely not easy to find something appropriate for a toddler in a queen size!

Her first night (last night) was a little rough, but we'd made a mistake by giving her a very late nap. I can't blame her if it ends up being a tough adjustment since it is so different and she's not even 21 months, but she's always been a great sleeper and I hope this doesn't affect that too drastically!

Update as of 2/14: Breeley has been in the "big girl" room for almost a month now and has done GREAT!! She reverted back to her normal sleeping habits (lay right down at bedtime, sleep all night for 12 hours with no waking) after the first night in the new room! We've had very little trouble. We laugh because she moves all over the bed, so it's a good thing it's a queen size! (There is a rail on the side by the way.) So far, she hasn't tried to get out of the bed on her own, which I'm thrilled about. Within a few weeks she started recognizing the new room as her room, and she didn't seem remotely phased when we painted and redid the baby's room last weekend. The transition shows she really is turning into a big girl!
