Daddy's Day

I appreciate a day to pay tribute to two wonderful fathers in our lives, my dad and my father-in-law, both of whom we love very much, but most especially to honor the amazing father of my children!

I let Brian sleep in on Father's Day and prepped Breeley to say "Happy Father's Day" when he came into the room. I was in the kitchen when he got up, but I heard her say loudly and proudly, "Happy Mother's Day!" She redeemed herself muliple times throughout the day, however, and made the correct announcement at several random moments! As a bonus, he also got to hear, "Daddy, you're my best frey-end" a few times!

Brian is an incredible daddy and the kids adore him. They are SO excited when he comes home. He is the best playmate--they love to wrestle with him, get thrown in the air, and play games like "get off of me" and "pig! pig!" He is the ultimate protector, and I've never questioned that he would do anything for his kids. "The Safety Patrol" often points out hidden dangers and things I'm not as in tune to, and his very quick reflexes have prevented many bumped heads and other would-be accidents. His concern for our children's comfort have caused me to dub him "The Comfort Police" because he's been known to question my choices of clothes and especially shoes. He would be most happy if their entire wardrobes consisted of cotton knits and only shoes that can be worn with socks. (Suggesting/insisting sandals be worn with socks definitely removes any possibilty of being called "The Fashion Police.") In addition to cooking dinner almost every night, I've always loved the special attention he takes to cut up the kids' food and provide perfect portions. He also gives baths almost every night (while I clean up) and deals with his fair share of dirty diapers.

I asked Breeley a few questions about her daddy, and it was so cute I decided to try to get it on video. The video didn't go quite as I had planned...

Here were her answers to the questions:

What is Daddy's name? Brian
How old is Daddy? 1
What does Daddy like to watch on TV? news and fishing (she answered this without skipping a beat or thinking at all)
What does Daddy like to eat? noodles and "ritos" (the noodles was probably referring to the can of chicken noodle soup he eats whenever we make sandwiches; "ritos" are Doritos, a Hudson family staple he is passing on to his children; she also said popcorn another time)
What does Daddy like to do with you? play, watch Barney

On Father's Day, we headed up to Brian's hunt club to pick blackberries!! It's about an hour away, but I'd been wanting to see it anyway, and getting fresh blackberries for free made me giddy!

This was a lucky spot where we could pick from the road. We both ended up with battle wounds from the vines and thorns from all the spots where we had to dig in a little deeper.

We went off-road to check the feeder and camera. Brian is hoping to get a hog next month, but so far only deer and raccoons have found the corn.

I climbed up in a tree stand and looked down to find these vultures eating my berries! Zack LOVES blackberries. Breeley only ate a few, but Zack had his hands in the jug any chance he got to stuff them in his little purple face!

Zack also enjoyed the walk through the woods, and was appropriately decked out in camo. We're probably looking at another outdoorsman in the family.

We left with two 1/2 jugs of berries, so about a gallon! Yum! It was a great way to spend Father's Day!

[When I originally wrote this--3 months ago!--the video wouldn't load. I just revisited it and the video worked, so you're getting it now, but I promise we loved our special fathers on the real Father's Day, and every day!]
